Back to Top Rewards Program How do I become a member of the Donor Rewards Program? Go to next element for the answer. First you’ll need to create an account in our new Donor Portal. Once you’ve created your account and logged in, you need to opt in to the Donor Rewards Program to start earning reward points for each donation. You can opt in to the Rewards Program by selecting “Rewards” and then click the link “Manage Donor Rewards Program Options.” If you have created your donor account and opted in to the Donor Rewards Program before or the same day you donate, you will earn points for that donation. Otherwise, you’ll begin accruing points with your next donation. You may opt out at any time. Back to Top How do I earn points? Go to next element for the answer. Each time you give a specific type of donation (whole blood, platelets, double red cell, plasma or source plasma) you earn points based on the schedules below. If you decide to switch donation types, or our staff ask you to based on current patient needs, you’ll keep the points already earned and begin accruing points at the appropriate donation count in the new donation type category. For example, you’ve donated whole blood two times in a calendar year and earned a total of 500 points. When you switch to giving platelets in the same calendar year, you’ll earn 1,000 points because it’s your third donation but now you’ll follow the points-earning schedule for platelet donations. Our Donor Rewards Program is based on a calendar year – Jan. 1 through Dec. 31. At the start of a new year, the number of points you’ll earn will reset to the first donation per the charts below. For example, if you finished the year with 18 platelet donations, you’ll continue to earn points but beginning with your first platelet donation (500 points) in the new year. Visit vitalant.org to view a list of legacy Vitalant donation centers. Back to Top May I transfer my points to someone else? Go to next element for the answer. No. These points are one of the ways we thank you for saving lives by donating blood. They cannot be transferred to another person. We appreciate that you might not wish to use them for yourself. If you choose, you may donate them back to Vitalant. (See "I don’t want to use any points I’ve earned. Can I give them back?") Back to Top Do my points ever expire? Go to next element for the answer. We want to recognize your ongoing efforts to transform patients’ lives. If you continue to donate, your points will remain active and redeemable. If you haven’t donated for 15 months or longer, your points will expire. We will notify you by email in advance of your points expiring. This policy may change at any time without notice. Back to Top Will I still receive points even though I haven’t opted in to the Donor Rewards Program? Go to next element for the answer. Back to Top Why do the point values change on certain thank-you items? Go to next element for the answer. From time to time, we may decrease the point value for a certain item in the rewards store based on inventory levels or changes in what we offer. Alternatively, we may increase the point value based on rising costs of specific items. We may modify the items in the rewards store and their point values at anytime without notice. Back to Top If I don’t have enough donor points to get an item, can I pay the balance in cash or just purchase? Go to next element for the answer. No. Only the points you earn by donating blood may be used for thank-you items. Back to Top ×
