What is:

Whole Blood

Whole Blood

This donation collects about a pint of blood and is the most common way to give blood. A whole blood donation usually takes about 10 minutes; the entire process takes about an hour.

Power Red

Power Red

This donation collects red blood cells but safely returns platelets and plasma to the donor. Donors must meet eligibility requirements, including height and weight. Donor blood type should be O-, O+, A- or B-. The process takes about 1.5 hours.

Plasma

Plasma

This donation collects plasma but safely returns the donor’s red blood cells and platelets (plus saline) to them. A plasma donation takes about 2 hours for the entire process.

Platelets

Platelets

This donation collects platelets but safely returns the donor’s red blood cells and plasma to them. Platelet donors must meet certain eligibility requirements. The entire process takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.
